University of Namibia Rundu Campus
Rundu Campus is located between the 17⁰54’6” South and the 19⁰47’57” East parallels. Covering just over 25 hectares (including the new piece of land donated to the University Campus by the Rundu Town Council). The campus is located along the Maria Mwengere Street. It is a home to 2 140 students (i.e. 1 594 full-time students, 371 students on the distance mode of study and 175 students on the In-Service Teacher Education Diploma in Junior Primary programme), and only 10 minutes’ drive from the Rundu Town CBD.
Transformed from the former Rundu College of Education in 2011, the Campus has now fully-fledged University status offering accredited undergraduate programmes under two of its Faculties, namely: the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences (FEMS) hosting programmes such as a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree, a Diploma in Entrepreneurship and Venture Creation as well as of 2014, a Higher Diploma in Accounting and Auditing; and the Faculty of Education (FoE) that hosts a Bachelor of Education (Pre- and Lower-Primary) (Honours), a Bachelor of Education (Upper Primary) (Honours), a Diploma in Junior Primary, as well as of 2016, the In-Service Teacher Education Diploma in Junior Primary programme. Master’s programmes in the FoE are also offered at the Campus, via Video Conferencing.
In tandem with this insatiable drive for growth and improvement, a new state of the art building was recently inaugurated that houses teaching auditoriums, offices for both academic and administrative staff – this building serves as an iconic land mark on Campus. Besides, a new state of the art gym hall is due for inauguration before long that will be available to students as well as campus staff members.
At the heart of the fastest commercial growth in Namibia, Rundu Town is host to a vibrant and studious cosmopolitan community of both residents and travellers along the Trans-Zambezi (formally Trans-Caprivi) High way. As such, the Campus becomes a default destination for aspiring SADC students, especially from Angola, Botswana Zambia and Zimbabwe. To that end, the Campus provides a generous ICT support to the community of learners. The Campus houses the Confucius Institute that offers a Mandarin Chinese course to students and the public at a nominal fee. Likewise, the Language Centre offers courses in Namibian (Rukwangali, Thimbukushu and Rumanyo) and Foreign (Portuguese) Languages at nominal fee and subject to minimum participation to the community.
In addition, the Library opens for extended hours, sports and recreation facilities are open for public use – affirming the Campus as a responsible corporate citizen.
