South African students (Preference will be to Black and female applicants) with financial difficulties wishing to do full-time Honours in any discipline at Rhodes University in

Preference given to students who intend to continue at Masters level in 2019

Value of award
Claude Leon Foundation Bursary normally valued at R25 000 and RU Council Loan R15 000 (Package valued at R40 000)

The total package will be used to cover the tuition and other University costs, with an allowance for living in the event of a credit balance.

Further information:
Awards will be selected on academic merit and financial need in any discipline of study.

Financial need will be evaluated as at present for applications (form attached) and will be based on family income per annum (gross, not nett) in the categories of R0 – R80 000, R80 001 – R 120 000 and R120 001 – R300 000 family income.

Application procedure NB :

  1. Covering motivation letter (short not longer than one page) indicating degree and subject planned for 2016 and confirmation of intention to study at Masters the following year
  2. Completion of application form
  3. Proof of payslips etc. needed as per application form (affidavit if not employed)
  4. Copy of id document
  5. Full academic transcripts (course records) (indicating %)
