UNAM Public Health Department
University of Namibia Public Health
The Public Health Department focuses on the entire population rather than on individual clients through the application of health promotion, health maintenance and disease prevention technologies as well as interventions designed to improve and enhance quality of life.
The mission of the department is to train students both undergraduate and post graduate who will be able to:
- Identify health problems and priorities
- Formulate public policies in collaboration with communities and other stakeholders
- Ensure fair and equal access to appropriate and cost-effective services including health promotion and disease prevention services, and evaluation of the effectiveness of those services
Furthermore the mission of the department is to create, integrate and translate population-based knowledge into preventive strategies for reducing the burden of human diseases and disability through the excellence of research, education and public service. To realize its goal, the department interacts with other departments within the School of Nursing and Public Health as well as other UNAM and external stakeholders.
