University of Namibia Midwifery
The Midwifery Department focuses on reducing maternal and infant morbidity and mortality rate by striving to render quality maternal services in urban and rural health facilities. In accordance with Vision 2030 of the Namibian government and to achieve Millennium Development Goals (MDG) 4, 5 and 6, in collaboration with other health interest stakeholders, the Midwifery Department is determined to make these a reality.
Therefore the mission of the department is to deliver excellent teaching and learning and produce competent, independent critical thinking midwives who will:
- Ensure that Namibians receive quality, safe, professionally and ethically based midwifery care that will positively reflect on decreasing maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality rates
- Identify health needs of the society through research, which is instrumental in rendering midwifery service and education
- Provide and maintain quality holistic care to women, newborn babies and to their families
