Full Time M.Ed Bursaries

Do you have a background in education, agricultural extension, social anthropology, sociology, social learning, geography, agricultural economics, development economics, or a related social science degree, with an interest in environmental change, social justice and social learning? Do you have good ICT skills and are you interested in researching networked social learning approaches in community settings?

Grahamstown, South Africa (see www.ru.ac.za/elrc), has two full time Masters in Education scholarships available for motivated, high achieving scholars with an interest in the above areas. The researchers will be required to undertake inter-disciplinary research, with emphasis on social learning in a food and water security management context.

The researchers will be required to undertake rigorous, theoretically strong qualitative research focusing on the capacity building and social learning of key actors within the food / water / climate in the context of

sustainable development, growing internet and mobile phone connectivity, and the urgent need to manage scarce water resources, contribute to food security and reduce greenhouse emissions (GHGs). The

researchers will work with a team of researchers who are researching community-oriented social learning approaches in the Eastern Cape at the water and food security / sustainable development interfaces.

Applicants would be required to start in February and will be selected on merit. The total value of the bursary / funding support is R 70 000 per annum for two years, with research and fieldwork costs up to a maximum value of R20 000. Researchers MUST be resident in Grahamstown for the duration of the research project (2 years).
