Namibian Defence Force Salary
1.JOB DESCRIPTION
This job category includes personnel involved at all levels with the planning, conducting and supporting of military operations on land, in the air and at sea in its primary functions, namely the tracing and destructing of the enemy forces as well as providing all telecommunication services and electronic warfare for this purpose; the planning, formulating and conducting of training to prepare members for the primary function; and the planning for the improvement, disposal and maintenance of weaponry and equipment to consequently provides the best available means to conduct the primary function.
Note – Duty Sheets:
The main objective of the job description is to define post levels to create posts, and not necessarily to establish detailed duty sheets. Detailed duty sheets are still to be compiled by the individual arms, corps, formations and units within the Defence Force structure for various posts and kept supplementary to the job description for practical application.
2.COMPOSITION OF THE NAMIBIAN DEFENCE FORCE
The Namibian Defence Force consists of the following armed forces:
(a)The Namibian Army.
(b)The Namibian Air Force.
(c)The Namibian Navy.
Members of the Namibian Defence Force are appointed by the Lieutenant General in terms of the Defence Act, 2002 (Act 1 of 2002). The members of the Namibian Defence Force are divided into officers and members with other rank.
An Officer is defined as a member to whom a commission has been conferred under section 21 of the Defence Act, 2002 (Act 1 of 2002). Officers are grouped into Junior Officers, Senior Officers and General Officers.
4.DESCRIPTION OF THE FUNCTIONAL LEVELS
Training/Pupil
This level includes personnel who undergo formal and informal occupational specific training and perform tasks resulting from aspects as set out in paragraph 1 above under the supervision of a supervisor.
Operational
This level includes personnel who independently performs activities described in paragraph 1(a) and may supervise support staff where necessary.
Supervisory
This level includes personnel who supervise occupationally related operational staff and if necessary overhead supervision of supporting staff.
Overhead Supervisory
This level includes personnel who supervise and manage/give practical guidance to various occupation related, supervisory and operational staff.
Professional (Occupational) Management
This level includes personnel involved with the administration/management of an occupationally/ professionally/technically related organisational component(s).
General Management
This level includes personnel involved with the administration/management of general organisational component(s).
Strategic (Overhead) Management
This level includes personnel involved with the strategic management of general as well as occupationally/professionally/technically related organisational component(s).
5.PROVISION OF POSTS
Posts are not specifically provided for Officer Cadet. Those involved are carried out-of-adjustment against vacant posts of 2nd Lieutenant/Ensign. If this arrangement results in adequate Officer Cadets not being employed (due to the lack of vacancies) the Lieutenant General must be approached for the additional employment of incumbents on these levels. In cases where a trained unit becomes available and Officer Cadets occupy the approved posts, one of the Officer Cadets must be kept in service additional to the establishment for the remaining part of the training period in order to make a vacant post available for suitable filling by a trained person.

6.2Appointment requirements
A person may be appointed as an officer in the Defence Force if such person complies with the general requirements prescribed in the NDF HR Policy as well as those indicated under each rank below:
Training level: Officer Cadet/Midshipman
Grade 12 (or equivalent) Certificate on NQF L3
Entry post: 2nd Lieutenant/Ensign
Grade 12 (or equivalent) Certificate on NQF L3
Successful completion of Officer Cadet training course
1st Promotion post: Lieutenant/Lieutenant JG (N)
Grade 12 (or equivalent) Certificate on NQF L3 2 years service as Second Lieutenant
Passing of the Platoon Commanders’ or equivalent course
2nd Promotion post: Captain/Lieutenant (N)
A National Diploma on NQF L6
4 years service as Lieutenant/Lieutenant JG (N) Passing of the appropriate training course
3rd Promotion post: Major/Lieutenant Commander
A B Degree or equivalent qualification on NQF 7
5 years service as Captain
