About IOL PPDE (Pre-Primary) Course

In a move to improve the overall results of learners across the country, The Ministry of Education has introduced a compulsory Grade 0 attendance in all primary schools, in all the regions of Namibia.
In order to support the Ministry’s Vision 2030 educational goals, the Institute of Open Learning (IOL) embarked on developing a Namibian Diploma in Pre-Primary Education (DPPE). This course is now offered by IOL to teachers and in all the regions of the country through a distance-learning program.
A solid infrastructure allows IOL to help their students by setting up Student Support Centres at all their regional offices. These Centres help teachers who have experience in teaching but lack the proper credentials to obtain a valuable qualification in form of a DPPE.

The DPPE course offered by IOL is a local solution to a local problem. Many teachers are situated in rural areas where a tertiary education is inaccessible or unaffordable and the the DPPE IOL Distance Learning Program addresses this need. Whereas most distance learning colleges rely on South African curriculum, this program is designed specifically in line with the Ministry of Education’s standards and curriculums.
IOL meets the career aspirations of people who never had the chance to fulfill their dreams in becoming qualified teachers. The main challenge will be to maintain and improve the standard of the courses and meet overall educational objectives in order to equip, educate and empower administrators, staff and teachers to improve the quality of education in Namibia.
