AAUW Bursaries in South Africa

Since 1881 AAUW has been empowering women all over the world.
In South Africa, women have a constitutional right, yet they are still faced daily with barriers of violence and inequality of a slowly changing male hierarchical culture. Therefore, women still have many challenges to overcome in South Africa.

This phenomenal organization touches the lives of women all over the world, giving them opportunities to grow and improve their own lives, as well as the lives of those they touch. This organization promotes fairness in all aspects of life through education, research, and even advocacy. The boost with more than a thousand branches and 800 University and College partners. They offer exclusive programs for women from all walks of life and they are open to women of all ages, nationalities, race, creed, class, and sexuality.
Yearly they assist more than 200 women with grants and fellowships. Their different scholarships are valued from $18 000 up to $30 000. These amounts depend on the study path chosen by the selected candidates. If you would like to take your qualifications to the next level and achieve a greater level of success by studying further in the US, this company may have an opportunity to suit your needs. Candidates applying will have to meet all requirements as stipulated before submitting their application.

AAUW BURSARIES AVAILABLE

Bursaries provided by AAUW are for candidates wishing to complete full-time studies at one of the Accredited Institutes of Higher Learning within the borders of the United States. This program offer candidates studying towards graduate or postgraduate within their chosen fields, an opportunity to complete their studies in the US.
The fields of study that are available include all approved study fields or research fields that are offered by any of the selected Institutes within the US.

AAUW BURSARIES REQUIREMENTS

Interested individuals may apply if they meet all stipulated requirements. Women who are active in their communities, have commitment to assisting others and dedicated to being professional in all aspects of their lives, will be given preference.
Candidates must be a citizen from one of the following countries:

  • Zambia
  • South Africa
  • Namibia
  • Swaziland
  • Lesotho
  • Zimbabwe
  • Botswana
  • Mozambique

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree within their field of study and it must be of equal standing as that of a US bachelor’s degree to be acceptable. Candidates must have achieved this degree by time of application.
Candidates must be proficient in English, reading, writing and verbally.
Candidates must intend on returning to their country and home after completion of their studies.

Once submissions open, candidates are welcome to start their application process. Candidates can find more information regarding their funding and process here. Their assistance to women does not end with their bursaries, they also offer support for those who return to their home countries and start their own assistance projects. Applications will not be accepted that are not completed in full or missing any documentation. Candidates are reminded to carefully read the eligibility criteria provided at the bottom of the Applications Page before completing the application.
There is only a limited amount of bursaries made available each year, therefore, they are very selective. Applicants will also have to pass their eligibility test when applying. Many applications are dismissed yearly due to being incomplete, if applicants require assistance or information to be sure they have all that is required, they may send an inquiry.

AAUW BURSARIES CLOSING DATE

Yearly applications for this bursary program closes the 1st of December. Applicants must ensure that their applications with all requested documentation are submitted before this date. Applications will open again the following year on the 1st of August. Interested individuals may visit their site and apply as soon as their application process opens.
