Rhodes University Ian MacKenzie Scholarship

Eligibility ONLY: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Entomology, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Ichthyology, Microbiology, Physics, Botany or Zoology.

For Environmental Studies for

This Scholarship to the value of R55 000 for one year and is tenable at Rhodes University and is awarded normally on an annual basis from interest accruing on a donation received from Dr Ian Mackenzie, a previous Chancellor of the University.

The conditions of award are as follows:

  1. The Scholarship is available for full-time Master’s or Doctoral degree study in the Faculty of Science within one of the following disciplines: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Entomology, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Ichthyology, Microbiology, Physics, Botany or Zoology. The topic of the research should be one which will contribute to the preservation or enhancement of the environment. 
  2. The Scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the University to applicants with a meritorious academic record.

  • A full academic record
  • An outline of your research proposal
  • A supporting reference from one of your present supervisors

Completed applications should be submitted by not later than 28 April

Please note that late applications will NOT be considered.

We will acknowledge receipt of your application. Should you have not received notification of the outcome of this application by the 31 June, you can assume that your application was not successful.
